Our story is deeply rooted in generations of passion and dedication that began decades ago in the mountains of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

From Carmo de Minas to the World

In the 1940s, in Carmo de Minas, a region known for producing some of the world’s finest Arabica coffees, Maicon and Sonia were born. Raised in humble families working on a renowned coffee estate, they learned early on the value of quality and hard work. Maicon, the son of the overseer, mastered the art of selecting the best beans, while Sonia, the daughter of the head cook, developed a unique talent for creating harmonious flavors.

Despite the rivalries between their families, Maicon and Sonia found strength in each other to dream of a better future. During the challenging years of World War II in Brazil, they decided to bring the flavor of Minas Gerais’ mountains to the world.

Maison Coffee: A Dream in the United States

In 1955, after enduring a migration journey filled with challenges, Maicon and Sonia arrived at the Port of New Orleans and settled in Little Brazil, Newark, New Jersey. Between memories of their homeland and new beginnings, they opened Maison Coffee in 1960, a coffee shop that quickly became a gathering place for coffee lovers. Every cup served carried the authentic flavor of Minas Gerais and a love for artisanal traditions.

However, as small business owners, they faced the challenges of the 1980s economic recession in the United States. Although they closed the doors of Maison Coffee, Maicon and Sonia never abandoned their passion. They continued roasting beans at home, sharing their expertise with neighbors and friends, keeping their legacy of quality and dedication alive.

The Rebirth of the Legacy

Now, in 2025, Maicon and Sonia’s grandson, Nilson Faria, honors his grandparents' legacy by creating Mr. Maison. Inspired by the stories he heard during his childhood in Seattle, Washington – a global hub for coffee enthusiasts – Nilson decided to combine his family’s tradition with modern innovation.
